This Kill The Shadow demo gameplay guide covers the official Steam demo loop, controller caveats and the limits of what the checked listings actually confirm. It is a setup and verification guide, not a claim that demo progress transfers to the released game.

Open the main Steam listing and use its demo button, or navigate to Steam app 2947640. Verify the title and publisher before installing. This guide does not recommend third-party mirrors or unofficial “demo unlockers.”

Use the demo to check the noir visual style, text legibility, investigation controls and performance on your actual PC. Compare hardware against the official system requirements, especially the large gap between the listed minimum and recommended CPUs.

Save transfer is not confirmed

The official pages checked on August 12 did not promise that demo saves, settings or achievements carry into the release build. Treat progress as temporary until the developer publishes an explicit transfer policy. The July 9 announcement and current Steam store both show August 5; use the local countdown for the actual unlock rather than treating either display as a save-transfer rule.

Test partial controller support

1. Keep a keyboard and mouse connected for first launch and configuration.
2. Confirm Steam Input detects only the controller you intend to use.
3. Test dialogue choices, investigation interactions, menus and text entry separately.
4. If prompts flicker, disable duplicate virtual controllers before changing the layout.
5. If testing a DualSense in the demo, treat the result as device-specific: the demo page names DualShock, while DualSense is listed on the separate full-game page.

Partial support is deliberately different from “full controller support.” Do not promise controller-only operation across every menu until the release build is tested.

The demo’s Steam data also lists 10 demo achievements. That number belongs to app 2947640 and must not be presented as the achievement total for the full game, whose total was not published in the checked listing.

Steam Deck status

The store capabilities above do not establish a Valve Deck rating. No Verified or Playable status was published in the official listing checked for this guide. The free demo can provide a device-specific test, but record SteamOS version, compatibility layer, resolution and control layout when sharing results.

Capture a useful controller report

When an action fails, note the controller model, wired or wireless connection, Steam Input setting, operating system and the exact screen involved. Reproduce it once with the default layout and without duplicate virtual devices. This distinguishes a game-side problem from a custom mapping conflict and gives the developer a focused report. Remove Steam account names and other private information from screenshots or logs before sharing them.
