What is confirmed so far

Kill The Shadow is a detective adventure RPG by Shanghai-based studio Shadowlight — their debut game. The Steam store page currently lists publisher Phoenix Game and a release date of August 4, 2026 on Windows PC. It is single-player, with Steam Achievements and Cloud support, and no price had been posted as of our last check.

You play Lucas, a former police officer in Dark Tide City, a post-war city split in two. A strange creature called the Shadow clings to your back: official material says it reads memories and “reconstructs the traces of the dead”, which is the supernatural hook behind the investigations. The game mixes 3D environments with 2D pixel-art characters, and the store page confirms multiple endings.

Two things worth knowing before you buy: the game was temporarily delisted from Steam in a dispute involving its former publisher and reinstated after roughly three months (reported by PCGamesN), and the developers disclose on the store page that AI tools assisted with localization proofreading and store-asset ideation, with final content reviewed by the team.

Full audio is available in English and Simplified Chinese; Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Italian get interface and subtitles.

The three stats: Strength, Spirit and Charm

Official store copy confirms three character stats — Strength, Spirit and Charm — and frames your options bluntly: “Psychological warfare? Bribery? Or simply beating up suspects?” Press coverage of the demo adds that your build determines which investigative paths open up during a case.

What is not published anywhere official: stat thresholds, respec rules, or which stat is “best”. Do not plan a build around numbers you read elsewhere — none are verified. The Shadow and the deduction loop

The confirmed investigation loop has two layers:

1. Approaches. Official demo-page copy lists eloquence, intelligence, the ability to rewind time, and violence as ways to question witnesses and dig up evidence.
2. Deduction. A dedicated system where you “gather clues, make connections, and build your own unique path to the truth” — official wording. Press coverage adds that you can identify the mastermind and still choose not to expose them.

The Shadow itself is a companion only Lucas can see and talk to. Its confirmed role is reconstructing what happened to the dead; how often you can use it, and whether it has costs or limits, is not yet verified.

Play the free demo first

The demo has been on Steam since July 25, 2024, is free, and holds a “Very Positive” rating (93% of 126 reviews at last check) with 10 achievements of its own. Press coverage says it drops you into the game’s first mystery and introduces the Shadow.

One caveat if you watch older demo videos: earlier coverage used different localized names — the protagonist was “Ah’Guang” (called “G”) in the city of “Darklight”. The current store page uses Lucas and Dark Tide City. Same game, re-localized names; our case walkthrough hub uses the current store-page names throughout.

What we deliberately do not list yet

Until the game is out and we can verify things firsthand, this site does not publish stat thresholds, case solutions, “best build” claims, ending conditions, or playtime estimates. Anything you find elsewhere claiming those specifics before August 4, 2026 is speculation. This page tracks confirmed systems only and will be updated after launch.
